2 of 5 Unimpressed Hydraulic Connections September 6, 2022
Reviewer: Michael R from Honey Grove, TX United States
The implement arrived at noon.

The hydraulic connections are crap.

I used it to move 2 bundles of tree cuttings to brush pile - 300 feet - and had to tighten the hydraulic fittings 6 times!!!

The placement of fittings is stupid - with each hose being on stacked side-by-side too close to allow wrenches to get to the fitting nuts to tighten - the fittings should have been offset - or better yet a pair of 90 degree swivel fittings for anticipated movement - in the present configuration each movement of the frontend loader's tilt and curl causes the fittings to loosen -  and to further indicate the faulty nature of the installation there was no hydraulic thread sealant on threads - crap!!  Unimpressed!
WR LONG RESPONSE:  Dear Michael, We are sorry that our product did not meet your expectations. It’s our desire to make sure each and every customer is satisfied with their purchase. We use industry standard hydraulic components and installation practices which should not leak when tightened properly. These should have been tight when they left our facility without the use of thread sealant. Our apologies on them not being tight enough. You should be able to easily loosen the hose clamps in order to better access the swivel fittings to tighten them down. If the hoses are too short and causing tension on the JIC fittings, then we would be happy to provide longer hoses to resolve your issue. Please feel free to reach out to us at 252-823-4570 and give us the opportunity to make it right.

Excellent piece of equipment. Very sturdy and a must for any property owner. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I believe everything can be improved.

5 of 5 Brush Grapple November 2, 2021
Reviewer: Michael Mcculloch from Midland, TX United States
The unit came in with some of the hydraulic connection loose. After using the rake, it was obvious I made a good investment.

5 of 5 Owned for 5 years April 26, 2015
Reviewer: Matt from Vincent, OH United States
I bought a 60" W.R.Long Rake in 2010 and have removed overgrowth on 10 acres since then using a 35 hp Kubota L3430.  Working just two weeks per year, our property has been transformed from a jungle to a park!  It is great at removing most trees under 9" using the chisel teeth of the grapple to sever the roots, then using the loader to push the tree over.  I have taken down 12" aspens this way, then hauled them to the brush pile, root and all!!!  The problem is I have made so many brush piles that I had to trade in the tractor and grapple for an L5460 and am now shopping for a replacement grapple, and possibly another implement for more selective tree removal like a stump bucket or tree spade.  The only problems I have had with the grapple happen when you catch a big root with a single tooth; putting the full force of the tractor on a tooth caught this way can break the tooth, which I have done twice.  Much better to back out and take another stab at it.
