Fertilizer spreaders can be divided into two groups. The first group of fertilizer spreaders is designed to be towed behind a garden tractor, ATV, or like vehicle.. These are very similar to the spreaders that mount to the 3 point hitch of a tractor, but are ideal for landscape and small property maintenance, and for the person that doesn't have a tractor with a 3 point hitch and PTO. We sell both types, here at Everything Attachments.
The tractor type units are cone type broadcast spreaders, fertilizer spreaders designed and sized appropriately for tractors, and mount to the 3 point hitch, and are powered by the power take off, (PTO) shaft from the tractor. Fertilizer spreaders of this type are our specialty at Everything Attachments.
The basic operating concept of a Fertilizer spreader is simple. A large material hopper is positioned over a horizontal spinning disk, the disk has fins attached to it which sling the dropped materials from the hopper out and away from the spreader. Seed, fertilizer, pelletized lime, road salt and coarse road sand can be loaded in the material hopper, commonly made of Poly or Painted steel.Options are a Salt and Sand Kit to keep this material in the road as it controls the spread. We also offer a bander kit, to direct the material to a row or in a specific path.
Most fertilizer spreaders have adjustments to control the direction of the material that is thrown from the spreader. All broadcast spreaders require some form of power to spin the disk. On tow behind units, the turning wheels are the ground drive for the gear box to spin the disk. A tractor, 3 point hitch mounted unit is PTO driven.
Get more life out of your fertilizer spreader by making sure you clean, wash, and oil it after EVERY use, and store it in the dry, or covered.
